When it come to emergency lighting, it is important to understand that if you are the owner\/management of a commercial, industrial, HMO premises or a management company overseeing the maintenance contract of a blocks of flats, it is a legal requirement that your building has an emergency lighting system that provides a clear exit route in the case of an emergency. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

The principle of these systems is they are controlled through a key-switch module which isolates the power to your emergency lights, and kicks in a battery supply that provides you an illuminated exit route to the external of the building as stated above.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

When it comes to emergency lighting, we find that 9\/10 installations we come across, are wired incorrectly, which is why its important that when you have these systems installed, that a competent engineer is undertaking the work, which is where we come in.<\/p>\n<\/div><\/div>\n\n\n\n

For maintenance, emergency lighting is a safety-critical system that needs to be competently serviced, reported and recorded in accordance to BS 5266-1<\/strong>:2025<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

Monthly Test – (Functional Test)<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

Testing period <\/strong>– Monthly<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Duration –<\/strong> 30 – 60 minutes<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Inspection<\/strong> –<\/strong> Visual check for damage and defect lighting<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Record<\/strong> –<\/strong> Information needs to be recorded on the dedicated emergency lighting logbook.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Annual Test (Full-duration Test)<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

Testing period –<\/strong> Annually<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Duration –<\/strong> 3 hours<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Inspection – <\/strong>Visual check for damage and defect lighting<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Record –<\/strong> Information needs to be recorded on the dedicated emergency lighting logbook.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
